The History of Marina Bay

Although it's widely considered to be one of the top waterfront districts in the Boston area, Marina Bay has humble roots. The area began as a naval base and airfield. After the base shut down in 1954, the property was sold to local electric company Boston Edison. At the time, people assumed that the land would be put to use as the site of a future power plant.

Fortunately for today's residents, Boston Edison had other plans. After sitting on the property for many years, they finally sold some land to O'Connell Brothers Construction in 1981. This sparked the development of what would become a premiere site for luxury housing, with property values rising steadily as the Marina Bay neighborhood expanded.

Today, Marina Bay encompasses 850 acres of premium waterfront territory on the northwestern shore of the Squantum Peninsula. It's home to many of Quincy's best clubs and restaurants, and residents and visitors alike enjoy stunning sunsets over Boston Harbor.

Marina Bay is still growing, and it's one of Quincy's greatest urban developments. Aside from the shops and restaurants of the boardwalk, Marina Bay contains multiple luxury apartment complexes and a combination of townhouses and seaport condos with a hint of French chateau. It's also home to a number of businesses and office complexes.

Things to Do In Marina Bay

Marina Bay has gained a reputation as one of Quincy's premiere entertainment districts. This waterfront neighborhood, nestled at the mouth of the Neponset River, hosts a vibrant nightlife and plenty of fine dining and shopping options.

The neighborhood's greatest strength lies in its position. The land, formerly a naval base and air strip, sits overlooking the harbor with an excellent view of Boston's skyline across the bay. The Nantucket-style boardwalk provides plenty of places to stop and enjoy a sunset of marvel at the view of the city, whether you've chosen a park bench or are enjoying the outdoor patio at one of the clubs and restaurants.

Among the most well-known watering holes on the boardwalk are Marina Bay Beach Club, an outdoor nightclub that frequently features live entertainment, and Siro's, a fine-dining option for Italian cuisine. If you're craving something sweet, Cream and Sugar sells ice cream cones and sundaes that are perfect for enjoying on a bench by the harbor.

The restaurants, clubs and live entertainment venues in Marina Bay provide the perfect getaway for local residents. New England-style townhome villages dot the neighborhood as well, giving a good contrast to the high-rise apartments and office buildings.

Marina Bay: Quincy's Top Waterfront District

Quincy houses a diverse array of neighborhoods. One of the big up-and-comers on the scene is Marina Bay, a waterfront district on the banks of Dorchester Bay. Developments in the area began in the early 1980s, and property values began to go up soon after as investors saw the potential in this former naval base.

Marina Bay has a higher average property value than much of the rest of Quincy, and this shows in the proliferation of luxury high-rise apartments and condos in the area. Many apartment complexes offer their residents benefits like in-ground pools, activity-filled clubhouses and fitness centers.

If apartment-living isn't right for you, there are also a number of townhomes, including duplexes, available in the neighborhood. Another option is to take up residence in one of the chateau-style condominiums, many of which provide stunning views of the bay.

Whatever you choose, be sure to venture out onto the boardwalk to soak up some local color. The marina, from which Marina Bay draws its name, houses over 600 boat slips and provides the backdrop for shopping, entertainment and fine dining. You can sip a cocktail from the patio of The Chantey or enjoy some moderately priced, seafood and steaks at Captain Fishbone's. Wherever you are on the marina, you'll still have a great view of the bay and Boston's skyline and be within easy driving distance of everything else Quincy has to offer.

Marina Bay: A Center for Luxury

Driving through the neighborhood of Marina Bay, two things are likely to stand out. First, you'll notice the high-rise luxury apartment complexes, many of which look like they could have been taken right from the center of Miami Beach. Second, you'll see a bustling boardwalk alive with shoppers and people seeking the unique tastes of local restaurants and bay-side bars.

Property values are higher in Marina Bay than most of Quincy, and you can expect to pay higher rent as a result. What you'll get in return is a beautiful view of the Boston skyline, proximity to the numerous office complexes that have opened throughout Marina Bay in recent years and access to some premium luxury apartments, condos and townhouses.

Most homes in the area are two-bedroom duplexes or apartments, and many of the apartments include extra amenities like clubhouses, gyms and on-site dry-cleaning. Larger apartments up to four bedrooms are also available, and townhomes and condominiums offer more flexibility. Residents can also enjoy easy access to the local marina, which boasts more than 600 slips for boats harbored in the bay.

The neighborhood of Marina Bay has grown steadily since the 1980s and is continuing to expand, so you can expect more apartment complexes and condominiums to be built in the future, especially as the boardwalk expands to cover more of the shore.
